 University Of Lagos: Admission Requirements for the Class of 2022/2023


Pre-University Course

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has released the admission requirements for the class of 2022/2023. Candidates must have completed a pre-university course such as Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), National Examination Council (NECO), or West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Candidates must have at least five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. Candidates with a Diploma or its equivalent from a recognized institution may also apply. Admission into UNILAG is based on merit and candidates will be selected based on their scores in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The university offers a wide range of undergraduate programs in various fields, so there is something for everyone.


Post-UTME Examination

Candidates who applied through JAMB and scored a minimum of 180 points are eligible to sit for the post-UTME examination. The examination is usually scheduled to take place in August. 

To be eligible to register, candidates must have a minimum of five O’ level credit passes in subjects relevant to their proposed programmes of study. 

The registration fee is N2,500 (Two Thousand Five Hundred Naira) and it is paid online via the university’s website. 

Candidates are required to upload their passport photograph and O’ level results on the website. 

After registration, candidates will be given a schedule for their examination which will take place at the Distance Learning Centre, University Of Lagos.


Post UTME Cut Off Mark

The University of Lagos has released the cut-off mark for the Post UTME screening exercise for the 2020/2021 academic session. Candidates who made University of Lagos their first choice in the 2020 UTME and scored a minimum of 200 marks are eligible to apply. Candidates with a minimum score of 180 can also apply if they choose University of Lagos as their second choice. The admission requirements for candidates seeking admission into any undergraduate programme of study in UNILAG are as follows: 

Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) O’ Level credit passes which must include English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or equivalent examinations.


Post UTME Screening Process

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) post UTME screening process for the 2022/2023 academic session has been announced. Candidates who made UNILAG their first choice in the 2020 UTME and scored 200 and above are eligible to participate in the screening exercise. 

Eligible candidates are to log on to the university’s website (www.unilag.edu.ng) to generate and print their Post UTME screening payment invoice. 

Screening fee is N2,000 (two thousand naira only). Payment can be made at any commercial bank nationwide through Remita platform using either debit or credit card.


Remedial Courses

All candidates seeking admission into the University of Lagos must have at least five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. However, candidates with less than five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes may be considered for admission into the Foundation Programme. The required ‘O’ level subjects and their minimum grades are stated below: 

  •  English Language – ‘C’
  •  Mathematics – ‘C’
  •  Physics – ‘C’ 
  •  Chemistry – ‘C’ 
  • Biology – C


Re-Post UTME Requirements

Candidates seeking admission into the University of Lagos (UNILAG) are hereby informed that the management of the institution has released the admission requirements for the 2020/2021 academic session. 

Eligible candidates who chose UNILAG as their first choice institution in the 2020 UTME and scored a minimum of 200 points are invited to participate in the screening exercise. 

Candidates must have at least 5 credit passes in relevant O’ Level subjects which must include English Language and Mathematics at not more than 2 sittings. 

Interested candidates are to proceed to register and sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Candidates are to score up to the required cut-off mark set by JAMB.

All candidates applying for admission into the University must possess a minimum score of 200 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, candidates who made the University their first choice institution and scored a minimum of 180 points in UTME are also eligible to apply. In addition to these requirements, candidates must also sit for and pass the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) Screening Exercise organized by the University.


The Final Stage - Acceptance Letters & Registration Procedure

The final stage in the process is when you receive your acceptance letter from the university. This is generally sent out a few weeks after your interview. Once you have received your letter, you will need to register for classes and pay your tuition fees. The registration process is usually done online, and you will need to create an account on the university website. After you have registered for classes, you will need to purchase textbooks and other materials. The last step is to attend Orientation, which is held a few days before classes start. During Orientation, you will learn about campus life and resources, meet your fellow students, and get settled into your new home away from home.
